Gabriele Di Matteo
Gabriele Di Matteo – Jackson Pollock
Inspired by the Jackson Pollock Exhibition at the National Museum of Modern Art, Centre Pompidou in Paris in 1982, artist Gabriele Di Matteo has taken over seventy illustrations from the original catalogue and subject them to a reproduction process that translates them into painted portraits. Taking photos that portray Pollock in various moments throughout his life, Di Matteo has ‘translated’ and ‘transformed’ them into paintings and portraits in a delicate act that pushes the boundaries of reproduction to the limits – documents have been rewritten, pictures re-photographed and enlarged – to form a homage to Pollock.
