The solo exhibition project for Kunsthalle Bratislava reflects Igor Eškinja’s interest in changing the narratives of the exhibition space and taking the specifics of the exhibition space as a main premise in the project. The work and ideas of Igor Eškinja can be related to the artistic practices grounded in the legacy of a conceptual tradition, which focuses on the very idea of artwork and questions the materiality of objects as conveyors of meaning. Nevertheless, Eškinja never strives to completely dissolve the materiality, but is interested in establishing a tension in the space, that rises between the idea and the physical presence of the object, which is always consciously grounded in carefully selected medium ranging from installation, image to photography, text or something that exists on the edge of materiality. That is the reason Eškinja’s project seems as something that exists as a dependent relation between positive and negative and as a compendium of infinite transitions between two-dimensional and three-dimensional understanding of the space.
